Jumping Into a New Role.
For those of you that follow me on Instagram, then you probably saw the announcement that I recently started a new job. Just last week I left my role as a Department Manager at Anthropologie to become the Store Manager of East Fork Pottery's downtown Asheville store front. When I excitedly told my dad about the news, he responded positively than casually asked, 'so how many jobs does that make for you.' It sort of caught me off guard and I replied by asking if he meant in my lifetime. Adding up all the jobs I've ever had may seem a little excessive, especially to someone in my father's generation where it is/was normal to get a job after college, one job, and that was/is your job for the rest of your life. Thinking about all the different roles I've had throughout my career (which have all basically been stepping stones through the retail world) I realized that yes, I have been looking for more elevated roles and steps up the ladder, but more so I've been searching for the right company culture for myself. This is the moment when I realized I am in fact a millennial, and my work environment matters a great deal to me.
I've never been one for labels, especially for myself, but after meditating on it for a while and reading multiple definitions of what defines a millennial, ha. I came to realize how important workplace vibes our for us as a society to live a fulfilled life. It's not just about the 9-5 anymore, going in and getting your job done, then going home for the day, being a corporate worker bee day in and out. It's much more about the company values, the brand you're standing in front of and representing everyday; do they have a positive message, are they socially responsible and doing their part to help others, and are they standing behind a good product. Furthermore does the company value it's employees, are they doing their part to promote a healthy work life - home life balance, and are they hoping their employees succeed just as much as their company. I may have worked a lot of jobs over the past few years, but it's been to find a position with a company that aligns with all of these things. Sure it's easy to find a position with a handful of these, but I think I have found full alignment with East Fork, and I'm so excited to be a part of their team. I don't think our parents and teachers expected us to take it so literally when they said follow your dreams. Because for us, it's not just about one hope, one dream, it's about constantly changing and building to follow every dream, explore every option, and build a career that you love.
On a style note, I also recently jumped out of my comfort zone and into this Faithfull the Brand jumpsuit for a wedding reception. It's not typical for me to wear something that's so low cut and also open back, since being a little busty makes these situations much more complicated. But, I fell in love with this piece the minute I saw it, from the silhouette to the beautiful print, and decided I was going to find a place in my life I could make it work. And with some nippies and a touch of styling tape I feel I could wear this beauty anywhere, day or night! A little bit more of an investment piece but I'm planning on layering it with a jacket for Fall and then working it into my Spring '19 wardrobe as well. What have you jumped into lately, I would love to know what newness this season of life is bringing you?
