Hi there! I'm Kirby!

Big Pandemic Moves.

Big Pandemic Moves.

Wow! Hi friends! Can you believe it’s been almost three months since my last post? Me either! Said post, dated May 27th seems like just a couple weeks ago, June, where did that go? July, did that happen? And now here we are almost a week into August! Amidst every other aspect of the roller coaster that is shaping up to be 2020, we decided, in the midst of a global pandemic, it was the perfect time to buy our first house. So we have, and we’re all moved in. And that, along with the virus, Black Lives Movement, the launching of our vintage e-commerce shop, h.h. Wolfs and everything else happening in the world is why I’ve been a little quiet lately. But I’m still here, Andrew and I are doing well and settling in, and for no reason other than the fact I hardly get fully dressed working from home, fashion inspiration will be in short supply for a while, but home inspiration will be coming your way!

It was not our intention to being buying a home in Western North Carolina this year - maybe not even in the next few years. We had honestly been planning a trip to the coast of Maine for three days after we ended up closing to look at a potential rental property up there. But alas, we stumbled upon this little 1950s cottage in the woods of Black Mountain and plans changed, fast.

This house stole our hearts with the huge corner windows and original hard wood floors. Even though it was technically move in ready, we’re going to have lots of fun updating things and modernizing to make it our own. Let’s be real there’s just a bit too much wood! And you wouldn’t believe that we didn’t even notice the mountain views from our kitchen and patio til visit number three, and discovered the community garden and park across the street on day number three of living here.

Though I don’t have anything to compare it to, buying a house in a global pandemic seemed pretty easy and ‘normal.’ Of course we wore masks every time we visited the property and never actually went into a single office, realtor’s, attorney’s or lenders (we even met our attorney and notary to sign closing documents on a bench in front of a restaurant in town), but outside of that I think the process would be similar to anyone else’s. Our seller who was also a real estate agent didn’t insist on a 30 day closing in order to accept our order which was pretty quick, but we didn’t have any reservations so we rolled with it.

It’s not perfect and it’s not very big, but it’s ours. It’s making my secret garden childhood fantasies come true and Andrew can set up a pottery studio in the basement. This little spot isn’t forever, but it is just right for right now.
