Styling Neons as Neutrals.
I go back and forth with how I feel about color. I’m a big fan of black, white and navy - and a lot of times when I buy a more color heavy piece of clothing I wear it once or twice and feel it’s too bold for continuous wear. BUT, after my more recent thrifting adventures (see what I’ve been thrifting for fall here) I’ve realized that I’ve scooped up some more colorful pieces. And something I’m really drawn to right now is adding bold, bright, neon colors to my wardrobe. And get this, treating them like neutrals. After realizing this chartreuse August Silk silk mock neck layers so perfectly under everything, especially my favorite black layers, I realized how fun neons can be. Even with the bold bottom layer this look is overall very classic and very neutral and it’s giving me a lot of inspiration for incorporating more color into my wardrobe.
I think the key to incorporating neons as neutrals is by pairing them back to high contrast neutrals. Chartreuse with black, bold pinks with whites and vibrant blues and purples with taupes and camels. I’m getting even more inspired. Add a little texture and you’ve got yourself a funky little party. I scooped up a bright pink chunky turtleneck sweater this weekend and can not wait to wear it with my white, Madewell Emmett Wide Leg corduroys this week. What do you think, neons or no?
